Tweets gone bad..

Hello everyone! Today my free choice blog will be on an article I have just read on AOL.com. The title of this article is, Emma Sullivan, Kansas High School Student, Punished For Sam Brownback Tweet. This article explains about an 18 year old high school student who had been punished for tweeting discouraging remarks about Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback. The article tells how after Sullivan arrived home from a field trip, after meeting Brownback, she began to tweet her dislikes. Her tweet read, "Just made mean comments at gov brownback and told him he sucked, in person #heblowsalot." Emma's tweet was then reported to her school and she was called to the Principal's office at once. The Principal began to reprimand Sullivan and ordered her to write an apology letter to the Governor himself. In the article it states that Emma still has not wrote the letter because she feels it goes against her right to freedom of speech.
I find this article to be quite comical. I find it funny to see how a high school student's comment, on a social network, about a political figure made the news. It amuses me to see how a student's comment on a Governor can go to such measures. You see everyday on the television shows that are meant to roast political figures. But when you have a high school student making comments, that game changes. I feel the students comment was rude, however I do believe in the right to Freedom of Speech. The high school student has every right to express her feelings over her own social site. Sullivan did not disrupt her learning environment or harm the Governor's title. I chose to blog about this article because it shows how a high school student's "tweet" could become public news to the world. I guess it always goes back to what your mother always said, "Always watch what you say."
